. Do not give them pain by departing from correct principles; but walk in the paths of life

And you, children, obey your parents; respect your fathers and mothers. Your mothers have watched over you, and your fathers are desirous for your welfare, and their hearts and feelings and affections are drawn out towards you. Do not give them pain by departing from correct principles; but walk in the paths of life. And parents, and children, husbands and wives and all people, fear God and put your trust in him and carry out the principles of your holy religion which God has revealed to us.

While this is a very sad day for this family, there is only one thing that could make this day truly sad in any sort of eternal way, and that would be for us to turn our backs on the gospel of Jesus Christ to which your grandparents dedicated their lives

[Jeffrey R. Holldand] was that witness to three children who loved him and 13 grandchildren who adored him.

Please permit me to say one thing to those grandchildren of Jeffrey R. and Patricia Terry Holland, and by extension to every member of this Church: While this is a very sad day for this family, there is only one thing that could make this day truly sad in any sort of eternal way, and that would be for us to turn our backs on the gospel of Jesus Christ to which your grandparents dedicated their lives

. The only way we could break their hearts is to abandon the source of truth and light that they lived and died to show us. Now it is time for each of us to pick up their baton and to carry on the fire of faith that they flamed within each of us

My shadow on this farm is worth more than the labor of all of you

President McKay told an interesting story. He said, ‘A farmer had a large tract of land. When he grew old it became too much for him. He had a family of boys. He called the boys around him and told them they would have to carry the load. The father rested. But one day he walked out into the field. The boys told him to go back, they did not need his help. He said, “My shadow on this farm is worth more than the labor of all of you.”’

Partners in Creation--God and Mother

May each of us treasure this truth; one cannot forget mother and remember God. One cannot remember mother and forget God. Why? Because these two sacred persons, God and mother, partners in creation, in love, in sacrifice, in service, are as one.

Parent Neglect

It is our sacred duty to care for our families. Often we see what might be called “parent neglect.” Too frequently the emotional, social, and, in some instances, even the material essentials of life are not provided by children to their aged parents. This is displeasing to the Lord.

If You Wish to Return to Your Loved Ones with Head Erect...

If you wish to return to your loved ones with head erect, … if you would be a man and live abundantly—then observe God’s law. In so doing you can add to those priceless freedoms which you are struggling to preserve, another on which the others may well depend, freedom from sin; for truly ‘obedience to law is liberty.
